“Well I meant I wanted to visit, just to see you.” Willis felt his face warm, “I mean… I thought I’d visit my friend while I had the time y’know?”
“No time for that, we should be getting Daisuke back to normal as soon as we can. I’m not entirely sure what would happen if this prlonged any further than it already has.”
“You’re right. I was being stupid. I’ll meet you tomorrow.” Willis said curtly and kept walking, Sora’s place in sight now. He didn’t know what he was thinking. Daisuke was in danger and he was still thinking about goofing off like it was a vacation. He had important work to do, and didn’t have time to mess around.
Willis hung up and let himself in. He was surprised to find Sora wide awake, sitting at the table with a serious look on her face. “Sora? What’s up?”
She motioned for him to sit down.
Sora looked up as she hear the door open, Willis finally coming back home. She motioned for him to sit down, and crossed her arms. “Where have you been?” she asked flatly. “It’s almost midnight, you can’t just come home whenever you want, Willis. You can get in a lot of trouble for being out by yourself not to mention it’s dangerous. And you left to take Daisuke home and come back, what took you five hours?” she stared at him from across the table, awaiting his answer.
“LadyDevimon?! She did that to you?!” Sora exclaimed. “When did you go to the Digital World? Why didn’t you tell me about this sooner?!” she demanded.
Daisuke left his post to step in front of Willis. “Sorry, that was all my fault!” He apologized. “I did something stupid and Willis had to go and get me.” He turned around and looked sadly at the other boy before looking at the kitchen floor. “It’s all my fault he got hurt.”
“Dai…” Willis pulled the boy into his arms, “It’s not your fault. Ken and I… we… look it’s just not your fault we got hurt. We weren’t exactly thinking clearly, our plan wasn’t going smoothly. I’m just happy we made it out.” Willis reached over to the spatula, minding the potatoes now as well. “Sora, I’m sorry things have been crazy lately and I wasn’t sure how to tell you. Don’t blame Daisuke, it was my fault he even did that.”
Sora sighed. “Daisuke, why were you in the Digital World by yourself anyways? You know that’s dangerous especially since we haven’t gotten rid of LadyD yet…” she went back to her potatoes and continued peeling as she spoke. “Wait. Ken was with you?” she asked. “But I thought…nevermind. Just….tell me what happened.”
“Nothing to worry about.” Willis smiled, “I was thinking, maybe we could go on a pseudo-date. I was thinking maybe you can have dinner with me and Sora, and later we can watch a movie and when I walk you back to your place… we can have some fun.”
“If that’s what you want, then sure!” He smiled. “Are we doing this tonight, then?”
“Yea, c’mon. If we hurry we might even be able to decide what to make.” Willis raced the boy back to Sora’s apartment, letting Daisuke win as they made it to the hallway leading to the apartment. Willis let them in and waved at Sora who was already home.
Sora carefully eyed the laptop in front of her, a white haired woman with a deep southern accent giving directions on how to make the “perfect southern meal, ya’ll”. She had her ingredients out on the counter, mimicking the woman’s movements. She kept her concentration as she heard the door open and then close, light footsteps soon sounding soon after. She glanced up to see her roommate and Daisuke standing there watching her. “Oh, hey guys!” she said, turning her attention back to the chicken in her pan. “Wanna help?”
“Sure thing, we were planning on eating it anyway.” Willis joked, leading Daisuke into the kitchen by the arm. “What do you need?”
“Not yet,” she said and motioned to the other counter behind her. “Willis, you take the mac and cheese, and…Daisuke! I need you to watch this chicken while I start peeling potatoes, make sure it doesn’t burn, and just flip it whenever that lady in the video does!” she said handing the spatula to the boy, and made her way to the other side of the kitchen.
“Um, okay.” He said, taking the spatula warily. He wasn’t very good at cooking unless it was ramen, ocassionally miso, but chiken? He was going to set something on fire. He stared intently at the chiken, watching it sizzle in the pan, and he’d look up every once in a while to see the lady flip it, and he’d mimic her.
“It’s not going to hurt you.” Willis said. He kept looking over at Daisuke, making sure he was okay. He rolled up his sleeves and washed his hands as he minded the mac and cheese. Sora noticed his bandage and gave him a concerned look.
“Yeah, Dai, the chicken doesn’t bite,” she joked. She glanced over at Willis, who had a large bandage covering most of his upper arm. ”Willis…what happened?” she asked putting down her knife and half peeled potato on the counter.
Willis looked nervously between Sora and Daisuke. He’d forgotten that she hadn’t known about his trip to LadyDevimon’s castle. “It’s nothing serious. I just got hit by a bicyclist chasing after Dai one night. I didn’t want to worry you so I didn’t say anything. Besides, Dai did a good job patching me up.” Willis felt bad lying to Sora, but he didn’t want her to worry about him to. He already had enough people worrying around him. Unfortunately, she wasn’t convinced.
Sora raised an eyebrow. “You were hit…by a bicycle?” she repeated. “Willis, that looks a little more serious than getting run over by a bicyclist and that wrap looks a little to good to be done by Dai,” she said and glanced over at the tan boy. “No offense.” She crossed her arms and continued talking. “Are you sure that’s all that happened?”
“Yea, it’s fine.” Willis refused to look into her eyes, “Don’t make a big deal out of it. I’m fine, LadyDevimon barely…” He stopped, realizing he’d let the name slide.
“LadyDevimon?! She did that to you?!” Sora exclaimed. “When did you go to the Digital World? Why didn’t you tell me about this sooner?!” she demanded.
